Primordial Dwarf

Microcephalic osteodysplastic primordial dwarfism type II (MOPDII) is a condition characterized by short stature (dwarfism) with other skeletal abnormalities (osteodysplasia) and an unusually small head size (

Decreased size of the cranium is accompanied by marked posterior sloping of the forehead.

An achondroplastic dwarf whose small size is the result of a genetic defect; body parts and mental and sexual development are normal. Primordial dwarfism is a group of genetic disorders which include Seckel Syndrome, Silver-Russell Syndrome, Microcephalic Osteodysplastic Primordial Dwarfism types I/III, II and Meier-Gorlin Syndrome. This genetic disorder group is characterized by intra-uterine growth retardation.

The growth problems in MOPDII are primordial, meaning they begin before birth, with affected individuals showing slow prenatal growth (intrauterine growth retardation). After birth, affected individuals continue to grow at a very slow rate. The final adult height of people with this condition ranges from 20 inches to 40 inches. Other skeletal abnormalities in MOPDII include abnormal development of the hip joints (hip dysplasia), thinning of the bones in the arms and legs, an abnormal side-to-side curvature of the spine (

People with this condition have a high-pitched, nasal voice and some have a narrowing of the voicebox (subglottic stenosis). Facial features characteristic of MOPDII include a prominent nose, full cheeks, a long midface, and a small jaw. Other signs and symptoms seen in some people with MOPDII include small teeth (microdontia) and farsightedness. Over time, affected individuals may develop areas of abnormally light or dark skin coloring (pigmentation).

Many individuals with MOPDII have blood vessel abnormalities. For example, some affected individuals develop a bulge in one of the blood vessels at the center of the brain (

Primordial dwarfism is one of the rarer forms of dwarfism in the world. People with primordial dwarfism tend to be much smaller than any other dwarfs. In fact, several of the people on this list have been recognized by Guinness World Records for being the shortest man or woman in the world. Reportedly, primordial dwarfs don’t often live past the age of 30 as the condition comes with a slew of health problems – about half the people on this list are under 30 but are still considered some of the oldest primordial dwarfs in the world. However, the oldest primordial dwarf on this list lived to be 75 years old!

Magar is 67.08 centimeters (26.4 inches) and weighs 6.5 kilograms (13 pounds) and underwent several medical examinations to receive his title.

Magar was first recognized for his small stature around 2006 by a businessman who decided to make Magar the center of attraction at various fairs in Nepal. While Magar still held the title of world’s smallest man, he traveled around the world as a Guinness World Records goodwill ambassador, promoting tourism for his home country of Nepal.

None of the people on this list are more famous than Filipino action star Weng Weng (Ernesto de la Cruz), who has a worldwide cult following. Weng Weng’s movies (mostly spoofs on James Bond films) are so iconic that they are considered to the the Philippines’ most successful film exports. Additionally, Weng Weng is a pioneer in the film industry – he was the star of his films while actors with dwarfism are typically only featured as sidekicks or in bit parts. His career as a leading man landed him in the Guinness World Records as the shortest actor in a leading role.

Weng Weng was interested in martial arts at a young age and one of his instructors is responsible for introducing him to a film producer. According to several of his co-stars, Weng Weng did all of his own stunts and was dedicated to his martial arts training. Unfortunately, it has widely been reported that Weng Weng never received much money for his work despite the popularity of his films. In a documentary covering Weng Weng’s life, it was revealed that his producers exploited him and kept nearly all of the money for themselves.

Despite being in the Guinness World Record Book for a number of years, Mohammed never capitalized on his fame. He survived on financial help from friends and voluntary organizations after unsuccessfully trying to run a roadside candy stall (Mohammed was often robbed because of his small size).
