Gladius is one of the most used and most useful PvP addons you’re likely to find. You can, and install it either using the Client, or by unzipping the folder and copying it into your World of Warcraft/Interface/Addons folder. Launch the game, and you will see Gladius in the center of your screen.Gladius replaces your standard arena frames, but if you’re using a UI replacement such as ElvUI, you may well need to manually disable that addon’s arena frames if you don’t want two sets. Locking Frames and TestingYou probably don’t want Gladius to show up in the middle of your screen, so to move it, click on the Anchor bar at the top of the frames and drag the box over to wherever you want it. Next, type /gladius config into chat, and that should open up a menu screen.If you want your frames to stay in place, check the “Lock Frame” box at the top of the General menu screen. If you want to move them again, uncheck that box and type “/gladius test” into chat, to bring up all five frames, “/gladius test 3″ for three frames, or “/gladius test 2″ for two frames. You can use this /gladius test function to bring up your frames any time you’re outside the arena and want to make changes.

You can also type /gladius trinket to get the test frames to simulate arena1 using a trinket.We’re not going to run through every single function of Gladius here, just a few basics. You can see from the menu to the left that it’s incredibly customizable, but it’s my opinion at least that you can get a working set of frames with little adjustment from the default.

Display OptionsGladius can show:. Buffs. Debuffs. Auras.

Diminishing returns. Dispel cooldowns and use. Health numbers or percentage. Power numbers and percentage. Target of unit. Trinket use.

Class, spec. Various announcements related to the above.By default, buffs and debuffs are disabled, with the exception of important ones such as CC, bubble or similar on the target.

These display instead of the class icons, so you can see that arena2 has Pain Suppression in the test frames. If you’re a spec with an offensive dispel, enabling buffs may be useful, but the display is a little untidy, and you’d probably be better off using another addon to show them.

You can see the Power Word: Fortitude icons below, indicating where they display.Debuffs on the target display very similarly, only above the frame, and it’s my opinion that an addon like displays them far better than Gladius.The far right icon indicates the friendly dispel cooldown. So you can see, and showing up as cooldown icons. These are extremely useful for CCing players in teams with a dispel, but are certainly one of the more optional features. The same applies for the DR trackers to the left of the health bars, which indicate the DRs of the different categories. Addons are very helpful to learn this sort of information, but as you progress you’ll start to be able to work it out for yourself, which is what you should aim for in the long run.

All of these options can be enabled or disabled by going to the relevant module and checking the box:These menus also provide considerable customization for each module. You can find the buffs and debuffs in the Auras menu, and the DR Tracker in the DRTracker menu. The above image shows the Dispel menu, and simply checking or unchecking “Enable Module” will enable and disable the relevant display. Using tags to modify frame textOne change I tend to make is to add health numbers to the bars. This is a purely personal choice, but it’s good to know how to use the Tags function of Gladius to modify the text on the frames.Going to the Tags section of the menu will show you the following:The different sections to the left: PowerBar Left Text, HealthBar Right Text and so on, show the different text areas on the frames. You can also add your own in the Add text section of the menu.

Within the Tag area, you can see the different types of text available, so for example, the above relates to “Unh DK” appearing on the Runic Power bar above.What I tend to modify is the numbers on the HealthBar Right Text. I change it to add in “MaxHealth:Short” which indicates the target’s Max Health on the bar in a short format, so 400k as opposed to 400,000. It’s purely personal, but I like to see the unit’s max health.The best way to understand how this addon customization works is just to open up the frames with /gladius test and play with the different options.

If you break anything, you can reset the module to get it back to how it was, and if it all goes horribly wrong you can reinstall and start again! Clicks and AnnouncementsLastly, the Clicks and Announcements modules. Clicks does exactly what you’d think, it modifies the behavior of the frames when they are clicked.There’s various actions that can be attributed to left-click or right-click: Target, Focus, Macro or Cast Spell. Of course, this can be replaced with mouseover macros, but it’s a useful feature if you don’t regularly use mouseovers.

You also have the option to add modifiers to your left or right click and have Gladius run actions for you in arena.The announcement section, as one might expect, deals with announcements! These can go out to your party, to your combat text area, to Mik’s or other addons, to Raid Warnings, or to Say. When you see players with lots of text announcements flashing up on stream, this is the sort of addon they’re using. Gladius will announce new enemies, drinking, low health, resurrecting, spec of players, dispels and trinket use.

All the announcements have to go to the same channel, so choose carefully in order to not spam your team!Altogether, Gladius is a very powerful and customisable addon, and it’s fairly clear why it’s so popular!We hope this guide was useful to you, and that you will keep checking back for further PvP Addon guides!
